Finally, NJ CARwill launch a “Careers in Automotive Retailing” webpage on the NJ CARWebsite. This will be a living, breathing page that can be updated over time. Initially, it will include videos, PDFs of any brochures, one-sheets or press releases we create, links to applicable career and job-seeking webpages, data-driven graphics on a variety of topics and profiles of various industry careers that discuss the specific, day-to-day responsibilities of various positions, as well as the education and experiences that can help someone be successful in that particular job. The Coalition’s Careers in Automotive Retailing communication effort will be fighting misconceptions and misinformation that have built up over many years and it is an important first step to changing perceptions about careers in the industry. But it is not simply enough to change the minds and opinions of students and job seekers. We need to attract the right kind of individuals to our organizations. We don’t want individuals who are simply settling for a job at a dealership because they couldn’t land that Wall Street job. We want the individual who sees growth potential and a challenging, rewarding career working at a dealership. We want aggressive, intelligent, courteous profession- als that will represent our organizations well when interacting with our existing and potential new customers. Our industry has come a long way with regards to the overall purchase and service experiences that our customers receive. We should be proud of the great lengths that we all go to, in an effort to exceed our customers’ expectations. It’s time for the rest of the World to learn what we’ve known for a very long time. The retail automotive industry has a tremendous amount to offer individuals interested in challenging, energetic and potentially lucrative careers. It is up to all of us, with help fromNJ CAR, to start challenging the misinformation about our industry and get this great message out to students, job seekers and consumers.
