APPLETON President’s Message  continued on page 6 Every November, your Membership dues invoice includes a line item for an optional $50 contribution to the “NJ CAR Charles E. Walton Charitable Foundation.” Many of you honor this optional contribution, but youmay not fully understand the huge impact these small, individual contributions can make, when added together. I am sure that every dealer in New Jersey helps a variety of organiza- tions in their community, evidenced by the estimated $13.1million in contributions the industry made in 2012. Youth groups, food banks, health education, disease research, emergency response, religious organizations — the list (and variety) of charitable organizations is long and, no matter how deserving, no one entity can help everyone that needs assistance. NJ CAR’s Chari- table Foundation compliments the individual efforts of dealers, by al- lowing the Coalition to focus dealer giving on a larger scale than hun- dreds of individual facilities could accomplish on their own. NJ CAR receives requests for assis- tance virtuallyeveryweekandwe try tooffer assistance to asmany organi- zations as possible. The Charitable Foundation has built up a small nest-egg and collects an additional $20,000 each year to help refill the coffers and make contributions to many worthwhile organizations on behalf of New Jersey’s auto retail- ing industry. In the last three years alone, the Foundation has made contributions to nearly 60 deserving organizations. Of course, all of the contributions made by the Foundation are appreciated by the various recipients. Occasionally, the Foundation makes a larger contribution or pro- vides “seed money” for a particularly large charitable effort. And, sometimes one act of giving snowballs into an unexpected level of generosity. For instance, The Charitable Foundation recently made a $10,000 contribution toHeart 9/11, anorganizationmade upof veteranpolice, fire and construction workers who serve as expert volunteers during NJ CAR’s Charles E.
