Heart 9/11 needed a pick-up truck to assist in its ongoing efforts to help those impacted by last year’s storm. The funds, combined with contributions from the Monmouth County Auto Dealers Associa- tion and other organizations, allowed Heart 9/11 to acquire a brand- new truck. In a glowing example of how one good deed can lead to other good deeds, the dealer who delivered the truck, StraubMotors, participated in a local car show and spoke to one of the organizers about Heart 9/11. Before too long, the organizer called his daughter inWashington, D.C., who contacted a friend working at JPMorgan Chase, which led to JP Morgan Chase making housing available for some of those displaced by the storm. The NJ CAR/ Charles E.Walton Charitable Foundation also has an ongoing relationship with the American Red Cross of New Jersey, donatingmore than $25,000 to the organization in the last three years alone. The contributions have not only supported the organization’s disaster relief efforts, but have also assisted the Red Cross in training many individuals in how to properly perform CPR. Over the next fewmonths, youwill hear a lot about theHope For The Warriors organization and the inaugural New Jersey Auto Retailers Run For The Warriors event to be held on Sunday, September 22nd in Holmdel. The NJ CARCharitable Foundation will provide com- plimentary financial support to, what I hope will be a large number of individual dealership sponsors for this inaugural 5K run, 1-mile walk and children’s 50-yard dash. Aristotle famously said “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Thismay be a cliché, but it is true, especiallywhen it is applied to charitable giving. The NJ CAR/ Charles E. Walton Charitable Foundation serves as a public face for the generous giving of the entire retail automotive industry in New Jersey. I hope every single dealer will continue supporting their local communities, in addition to the wider charitable outreach of the Coalition through their financial support of the NJ CAR/ Charles E. Walton Charitable Foundation.
