When you donate to a hospital or social cause or children’s group or school, invite them to your showroom, take some pictures and promote both the cause AND your support. While each and everyone of us contributes to charities and causes near and dear to us personally, there are occasions when we can combine resources to make a six or seven-figure contribution to a worthwhile cause that will generate headlines and benefit the entire industry. The New Jersey Auto Retailers Unite campaign, which launched June 1st, presentedNewJersey dealerswith an incredible opportunity to show our support for The Valerie Fund, an organization that helps thousands of New Jersey children (and their families) who bravely fight cancer and blood disorders. The campaign has generated traffic into participating dealer show- rooms and headlines throughout the Summer. Already, nearly 180 dealerships (more than 33% of ALL New Jersey dealers) have signed on to participate in the program, which is being actively supported by a variety of media partners including CBS New York, CBS Outdoor, ClearchannelMedia,Comcast Spotlight,GreaterMedia, Inc. ,NJ.com , The Star Ledger and WCBS Radio. Participatingdealerships have received tremendous value (and recogni- tion) for a relatively small financial contribution. PSAs are running on bothComcast andVerizon. Participating dealers are incorporating the Valerie Fund or Campaign logo into their print advertising. Radio and television ads are letting the public know about the program. Bill- boards are up around the State. The campaign website (http://www. njautoretailersunite.com/) is generatingmore andmore hits everyday. An email marketing and social media campaign has been underway for more than two months. We should never ignore the charitable efforts in the communities in which we operate, but it is equally important to join together occa- sionally to support a statewide effort. The charity benefits from the geographic reachandcommunity focus of our industry. The franchised automotive retail industrybenefits fromthe coverage that accompanies hundreds of businesses joining together in support of a common cause. Every single dealership in New Jersey benefits when we show our elected officials and potential customers how much we do for the communities in which we operate.
