N E W J E R S E Y C O A L I T I O N O F A U T O M O T I V E R E T A I L E R S 9 new jersey auto retailer W W W . N J C A R . O R G been challenged by unprecedentedmanufacturer opposition. Also, manufacturers have rallied some New Jersey dealers to oppose the legislation. To achieve legislative success in the future we will have to be more unified. Some dealers have urged the association to press the manufactur- ers with every means possible, including formal notifications of violations, and, if necessary, supporting dealers in individual legal actions. I see value in these positions; however, I also take our deal- ers’ profitability very seriously and would not attack a particular manufacturer without strong support from the dealers represent- ing that make. We followed that approach when reviewing the Cadillac Pinnacle Program, meeting and/or talking to virtually every Cadillac dealer in the State. We need to remember that we can write a law that can prohibit a certain type of incentive but we have no ability to force a manu- facturer to replace an unfair incentive with a fair one. Getting a comprehensive bill that satisfies all dealer concerns is a difficult task. The Coalition has to balance the opinions of most dealer members and walk a fine line in how it tackles issues that impact our retail industry. It is critical that NJ CAR work with members of both parties to pass legislation that benefits consumers and the retail automotive community in New Jersey or defeat proposals that would harm consumers and dealers. NJ CAR has built great relationships with many legislators and these relationships will pay dividends in the long run. One of the highlights of my year has been the opportunity to work with past and future leaders of the organization. I have been par- ticularly impressed with the time and effort the past Chairpersons continue to put into helping guide the Coalition. I also want to congratulate Incoming Chairman Rick DeSilva, Jr and thank him for working hard to involve our NextGen dealers. His leadership will serve the association well going forward. Thanks to everyone who made my year as the chairman of such an incredible organization a very rewarding experience. ➢ Estate Planning and Asset Protection ➢ Investment Planning ➢ Retirement Planning ➢ Business Succession Planning ➢ Insurance Planning ➢ Benefit Planning Wealth Preservation Solutions, LLC.
