O R G has had superb dealers recognized each year who represent the professionalism and value of being a dealer. As Chairwoman of the Dealer Operations Committee, I also championed educational opportunities for dealership employees at the federal and State level. Over the last 13 years, there were many issues facing the industry that required a coordinated effort between our national and State organizations. I am confident I was able to play a role in serving as a conduit between the two organizations and help them work together. Serving as New Jersey’s NADADirector, I have experiencedmany of the challenges our industry has faced over the past dozen years. The worst was the 2008 recession andGM/Chrysler bankruptcies, which affected so many of our dealers. There are ongoing battles with the overreach of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), challenges to franchise laws, the onslaught of recalls, Tesla’s foray into direct sales, attacks on the franchise system itself and so much more. It has been an honor to work with Jim Appleton and the rest of the NJ CAR staff and members of the Coalition to provide deci- sion makers in Washington with information about the many benefits of the franchise system. It’s also been fun to take off the gloves and fight the fight, when necessary, to defend our industry. One of the personal highlights during my tenure was being named to the 2010 Automotive News list of The 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry, along with Mindy Hol- man, of Holman Automotive Group and Susan Scarola of DCH Automotive Group. I don’t know if anyone remembers, but NJ CAR honored all three of us with an unforgettable ad (pictured in this column). My tenure as New Jersey’s NADADirector would never have been as successful as it was without the hard work of everyone at the Coalition and the support of my friends and colleagues in the New Jersey dealership community. In particular, it has been wonderful to see, up close, how well the dealers of New Jersey are served by the expertise and diligence of our President, Jim Appleton. He is certainly a nationally-recognized leader throughout the NADA network of directors and ATAEs. New Jersey’s incoming NADADirector is Richard DeSilva, Sr. He takes the reigns with an impressive resume, having served as both Chairman of NJ CAR and Chairman of the American Interna- tional Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA). His experience will serve him well. I wish Rick the best of luck as he begins his term at the end of January 2017 and hope he enjoys representing our State as much as I have. Thank you, again, for the opportunity to represent an incredible group of men and women here in the Garden State. “Fuggedaboutit!” a Jersey Shore a Real Housewives of New Jersey a The Sopranos The New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers is proud of these Jersey Girls Just 13 of the “100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry” named by Automotive News are retailers, and NJ CAR is very proud to point out that 3 of them are from New Jersey!
