In 2016, 251 dealers made the requested contribution of $150 per quarter per store (see the attached list of dealerships that contributed the full $600 solicitation in 2016) ; another 43 dealers con- tributed something less than the requested contribution, and 223 dealers contributed nothing at all. Keep in mind that New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) rules allow contributions up to $8,200 per business or jointly-controlled business. That is considerably more than the $600 per year requested by CAR-PAC. 2017 Elections Since 2017 is a legislative and gubernato- rial election year in New Jersey, CAR-PAC must ratchet up its fundraising activities this year by going back to each dealer that gave the requested $600 contribution in 2016 and asking them to contribute an additional $2,500 in 2017. For dealers who contributed less than the requested amount, we will ask for the remainder of the $600 contribution plus another $2,500. And for those dealers that have given no money in this election cycle, CAR-PAC will ask them to contrib- ute $600 and an additional $2,500. If everyone contributes, CAR-PAC will be in excellent shape to fully participate in the upcoming gubernatorial and legisla- tive races. CAR-PAC is not the only tool of political engagement, but financial contributions must continue to be part of our effort. We must ALL contribute our share so CAR-PAC remains poised to support the candidates who support the retail automo- tive industry in New Jersey.
