One of NJ CAR’s most valu- able services is providing dealers with assistance in all phases of the licensing process. Coalition staff have a long-standing relationship with the Business Licensing Unit (BLU) at the NJMVC, as well as the Licensing Unit at DOBI, which enables NJ CAR to help dealers get a quick and accurate answer to their questions. From initial Dealer Licensing to New Motor Vehicle Dealer Sublet, Emission Repair Facility (ERF) , Private Inspection Facility, full-service Auto Body and other licenses, Coalition staff will guide members through the application process and provide detailed instructions on how to compile the required documentation and complete the various applications. Once completed, NJ CAR will hand deliver the application, support- ing documents and fees to the appropriate governmental unit and track its progress through the system until the license is issued. Usually, the governmental license is returned to NJ CAR for delivery to the member dealership. In addition to the issuance of new licenses, NJ CAR staff also monitors the renewal periods for all NJMVC licenses, which are staggered throughout the year. Since New Jersey renews Dealer Licenses annually, and the window for that renewal is relatively small, NJ CAR works closely with the NJMVC to make sure all members renew their licenses on time. Managing dealer plates often presents a logistical challenge for some dealers. Long-term exposure to damaging weather and road conditions can cause dealer plates to deteriorate so badly they become unreadable by law enforcement and NJ CAR staff assists dealers in their efforts to obtain the necessary licensing for installment sales and the sale of insurance products.
