O R G NJ CAR’s Academy Celebrates A Decade Of Providing Top Quality Training & Education Services BY ROBERT C. MAY, NJ CAR’S MANAGING DIRECTOR & STAFF COUNSEL More than 2,100 dealership staff, representing more than 300 dealerships, have attended NJ CAR Acade- my training seminars, webinars and workshops over the past decade. Owners, General Managers, Sales Managers, F&I Managers, Service & Parts Managers, Motor Vehicle Title Clerks and other dealership staff have shared the knowledge they’ve gained at Coalition events with their dealership col- leagues. The Coalition’s Training and Education Program has evolved over the years, adjusting to the needs of dealers, while continuing to generate a revenue stream for NJ CAR and its advocacy efforts on behalf of its members. The revised format features specific workshops with sponsor participation which allows NJ CAR to keep registration fees affordable. The NJ CAR Academy was created in 2008, in partnership with Judy Vann of JV Solutions. With nearly three decades of experience in the retail auto industry, Judy is a special- ist in sales, marketing, F&I and management training. She is an Association of Finance and Insurance Professionals (AFIP) -Accredited Facilitator and has assisted hundreds of F&I Managers in acquiring their certification. Judy’s proven training methods, which incorporate her real-world experi- ences with a meaningful approach to classroom instruction, have resulted in some of the highest test scores in AFIP’s history and she remains the “training specialist” behind the NJ CAR Academy. The NJ CAR Academy now includes four perennial anchors: 1) Controller and Office Manager Workshop – Due to strong participation by dealership controllers and office managers across New Jersey, this Program has been expanded and is now offered in both north and south-Jersey locations. The full-day (9:30 am – 3:30 pm) workshop typically includes tax and motor vehicle related topics, as well as a timely employment law topic. 2) Used Car Workshop – This half-day session combines both “used car sales” and “compliance” topics – offering best prac- tices for increasing the effectiveness of the dealership’s Used Car Department, while remaining compliant with applicable State and federal regulatory requirements. 3) Dealer Principal/General Manager Legal Workshop – This full-day session (9:30 am-3:00 pm) features well-respected at- torneys and other professionals who discuss current legal and other topics. Panel presentations are often used to cover a vari- ety of topics and, frequently, a State regulator will be invited to provide a unique perspective on important issues. 4) MV Title Clerk Training & Certification Program – This 3-day, in-depth training program provides participants with a working knowledge of New Jersey Motor Vehicle documents TOP QUALITY continued on page 14
